HC Deb 05 March 1931 vol 249 cc569-70
25. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the profit of £66,689 7s. 9d. made in Carlisle and district in respect of Government-owned licensed houses during the year 1929–30 was a net or a gross profit; and, if net, what deductions have been made from the gross profit in arriving at the figure?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Clynes)

The figure of £66,689 7s. 9d. referred to represents net profit. For the details of the deductions made before arriving at the figure, I would refer the hon. Member to my Annual Report for 1929–30, which I mentioned in my answer to my hon. Friend the Member for West Ham on the 19th February.

Sir WILLIAM MITCHELL-THOMSON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether among the deductions which are made in arriving at the net figure there is a deduction for Income Tax, and can he also say what the depreciation stands at?

Mr. CLYNES

I think the right hon. Gentleman will find all those points have been covered in the return.

Sir W. MITCHELL - THOMSON

What, Income Tax?

Mr. CLYNES

Yes, I understand so. If it is not covered, I will see that that information is supplied.
