HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 cc31-2
48. Sir K. WOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether he can now state when he proposes to make a statement concerning the proceedings of the Economy Committee; and when a report of their re commendations will be available to Members of this House?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am not yet in a position to add to my previous statements, or to say when the report of the committee will be available.

Sir K. WOOD

Can the right hon. Gentleman state what is the difficulty, and why we have had no announcement indicating in any way when we are likely to receive the report?

The PRIME MINISTER

There is no difficulty at all. The Geddes Committee took four months to issue its first interim report. This committee has been only about three months. The Geddes Committee took six months to give its final report, and before the right hon. Gentleman can have any justification for complaint he will have to wait that length of time.

Sir K. WOOD

Cannot the right hon. Gentleman consider the possibility of suggesting some interim report?

The PRIME MINISTER

I said that the Geddes Commitete issued its first interim report four months afterwards.
