§ 58. Mr. MARCUSasked the Postmaster-General when he will be able to make public his decision as to the advisability of making certain reductions in telephone charges?
§ The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Attlee)I am glad to be able to announce the following reductions in telephone charges, with effect as from the 1st October next:
§ Residence lines.
§ Internal extensions without intercommunication. Reduced from 6s. to 4s. a quarter.
§ Internal extensions with intercommunication. Reduced from 9s. to 8s. a quarter.
§ Business lines.
§ Non-Intercommunicating Extensions. Reduced from 6s. to 5s. a quarter.
§ Large installations.
§ Instead of the present flat rate of 9s. a quarter, the following scale will apply:
1486§ First 50 extensions 9s. a quarter per extension.
§ Next 150 extensions 8s. a quarter per extension.
§ Next 200 extensions 7s. a quarter per extension.
§ Additional extensions (beyond 400) 6s. a quarter per extension.
§ Substantial reductions will also be made in the charges for long-distance private telephone circuits.
§ I propose also to modify the conditions of telephone agreements so as to allow notice of termination to become effective three months after the date on which it is given.
§ Mr. DAYCan my hon. Friend say whether he proposes also to make any variation in the telephone charges to America?
