HC Deb 22 July 1931 vol 255 cc1484-5
57. Mrs. MANNING

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the proposed action of the Basingstoke Town Council to erect a car park upon an open space which has been used by the children of Basingstoke as a playing field for 40 years; and whether ho is aware that parents, teachers, school managers, the education committee, and the county council are all opposed to the suggestion; and whether he will withhold his sanction from this proposal?

Miss LAWRENCE

My right hon. Friend has not received any application from the town council, but has seen a report in the Press. Any proposal would, in accordance with Section 68 of the Public Health Act, 1925, be advertised by the town council and intending objectors should in the first instance submit their objection to the town council and have a right of appeal to petty sessions. On the information at present before him, my right hon. Friend cannot say what his decision would be upon any application to him by the town council.
