HC Deb 22 July 1931 vol 255 c1478
36. Mr. RICHARDSON

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has any further information with regard to the action of the Traffic Commissioners for the northern area in compelling omnibus owners to increase their fares from 6d. to 9d. per day for carrying miners to and from their work in the Durham coalfields?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I understand that the allegation is entirely unfounded. The first hearing of applications for road service licences in respect of omnibus services in the county of Durham was held on 14th July, and any alleged increases in fares could not in any event be due before that date to action on the part of the Traffic Commissioners.
