HC Deb 22 July 1931 vol 255 cc1476-7
30. Sir K. WOOD

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is prepared to receive a deputation from the various organisations of London taximeter-cab drivers on the subject of the draft London Traffic (Unhired Cabs) Regulations, 1931?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

A deputation from the various organisations of London taxi-cab drivers, on the subject of the draft London Traffic (Unhired Cabs) Regulations, 1931, was received as recently as Monday last by the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, and pending the receipt of the committee's report I do not think any good purpose would be served by my receiving a further deputation.

Sir K. WOOD

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that these organisations of taxi-drivers themselves are anxious to meet him and not a particular committee?

Mr. MORRISON

Assuming appropriate circumstances, I have not refused to receive them. Obviously, when the committee has received them on Monday, and they have been willing to meet the committee, it would not have been appropriate for me to meet them on Wednesday.

Sir K. WOOD

Is the right bon Gentleman not aware that they asked to meet him?

Mr. MORRISON

The fact remains that they met the committee on Monday, and it hardly seems appropriate that the Minister should meet them two days afterwards.
