HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 c2272
75. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Transport the present position with regard to the Wednesfield aerodrome, and when the report of the inquiry held last January may be expected?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Mr. Parkinson)

The application by the Central Electricity Board for the consent of my right hon. Friend in respect of certain overhead electric lines near Wednesfield was opposed not only by the Wednesfield Urban District Council, but by certain landowners. The board are in negotiation with certain of these landowners, and my right hon. Friend is awaiting the result of these negotiations before issuing his final decision as regards this portion of the route.

Mr. MANDER

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this long delay is holding up all development, and how is it that it has taken six months to arrive at a decision?

Mr. PARKINSON

There have been negotiations in respect of land to the north of the aerodrome, and until a definite decision has been arrived at in these negotiations, my right hon. Friend cannot come to a decision.

Mr. MANDER

Will the hon. Gentleman hurry them up?
