HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 cc2270-1
66. Mr. KELLY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what is the attitude of the Government to the application of the Isle of Man legislature for approval for the raising of a loan and the funding of the War Debt?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

I am today introducing the necessary Bill in connection with this matter.

Mr. KELLY

Do I understand that the Royal Assent is being given to the island having a debt, when it can well afford to pay out of revenue, and when there is a strong opposition to such a debt being created?

Mr. PETHICK - LAWRENCE

Obviously, the right time to discuss this question, if the hon. Member wishes to discuss it, is when the Bill is introduced and on the subsequent stages of the Bill.
