Major POLEasked the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been drawn to the representation made to the Government of India on account of the fact that, although the Royal Indian Marine invites tenders for Bengal, Natal, and Cardiff coals, the amount of Indian coal actually purchased is very small, since the coal-burning ships of the Royal Indian Marine and the coal-burning plant in the Royal Indian Marine Dockyard at Bombay are so designed at present as not to enable the employment of Indian coal; and whether, in view of this representation, any and, if so, what steps are being taken to examine the possibility of utilising a greater quantity of Indian coal in the Royal Indian Marine?
