HC Deb 28 January 1931 vol 247 c957
34. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many of the battleships and cruisers, including battle cruisers, in commission are fitted for launching aeroplanes from their decks and actually carry aeroplanes?

Mr. ALEXANDER

One British battleship and one British cruiser in commission, are fitted for launching aircraft from catapults and actually carry aircraft. Four other British cruisers in commission actually carry and operate aircraft, but as they are not yet fitted with catapults they do not launch them in the full sense of the word.
