§ 57. Mr. MUFFasked the Minister of Transport if he has any information as to how many persons are employed on the London underground railways as a result of the London Electric Railways Act, 1930; and what amount of money has been advanced from the Exchequer?
§ Mr. HERBERT MORRISONThe latest returns furnished to the Ministry of Labour record 971 men as directly employed on 19th December, 1930, on works on the London Electric Railways and the Central London Railway assisted under the Development (Loan Guarantees and Grants) Act, 1929. The figures take no account of the indirect employment afforded. Under the terms of the grant made to the undertakers the first payment in respect of interest is due to be made on 1st October, 1931. No money has, therefore, yet been issued by the Treasury in respect of these schemes.
