HC Deb 28 January 1931 vol 247 cc969-70
58. Mr. LOUIS SMITH

asked the Minister of Transport if he can give any estimate as to the amount of granite kerbing which will be required in the course of the next five years, so that British manufacturers may make full arrangements for developing their activities so as to fill this demand with- out any need for importations from foreign countries?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I cannot make a reliable estimate. I have urged highway authorities to make the fullest possible use of British materials. The supply of British kerb has been for many years inadequate to meet the demand, and I do not think British kerb manufacturers need hesitate to develop their activities to the fullest extent, provided the quality and price of their products are satisfactory.
