HC Deb 27 January 1931 vol 247 cc786-7
35. Rear-Admiral BEAMISH

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will give particulars of the recent casting, of Army horses at Brighton for veterinary reasons, stating the number, to whom sold, and at what price per head; and to what purpose they are to be put?

Mr. SHAW

Eleven Army horses recently cast at Brighton for veterinary reasons, mainly chronic lameness, were sold for human consumption to Messrs. Smith and Spalding, Limited, London. The animals were destroyed in London in the presence of a military representative. It would be contrary to practice to publish the price paid by the contractor.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

Were they destroyed by the humane killer?
