§ 48. Mr. WISEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the subjects of the recent discussions between officers of his Department and of the French Ministry of Finance; whether any decisions were reached; and, if so, what were they?
§ 54. Mr. AYLESasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any understanding, tacit or otherwise, exists between this country and France affecting the financial arrangements of the two countries and the movement of gold; and, if so, the nature of such an agreement and its effect?
§ Mr. P. SNOWDENThe object of the recent meetings between representatives of the French and of the British Treasury was to have a frank and cordial exchange of views on the financial and economic difficulties of the present time which affect the interests of both countries. The discussions are not yet concluded and it would therefore be premature for me to make any further statement.
§ Mr. SNOWDENNo, I do not think so.
§ Mr. SNOWDENI can add nothing to the statement which I have made in reply to the question on the Paper. These discussions have not reached a stage where it is desirable to make any public statement.
