HC Deb 26 January 1931 vol 247 cc602-3
42. Mr. ALBERY

asked the Minister of Agriculture what acreage was planted to wheat in England and Wales last year; and what is the estimated acreage for the coming season?

Mr. WILLIAM WHITELEY

The acreage under wheat in England and Wales as returned by occupiers of agricultural holdings exceeding one acre on 4th June, 1930, was 1,346,000 acres. My right hon. Friend has no information as to the actual acreage planted or to be planted during the current season, but reports furnished by the Ministry's Crop Reporters on 1st January indicate that the area already planted to wheat at that date was about 7 per cent. less than on the 1st January, 1930.
