HC Deb 26 January 1931 vol 247 c584
16. Sir K. WOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether be has now given further consideration to the references, direct and indirect, to the British Government and British subjects in the judgment of the court which recently tried certain industrialists in Moscow; and if he is taking any action?

Mr. DALTON

I have nothing to add to my reply of the 19th of December to a similar question by the right hon. Gentleman.

Sir K. WOOD

Does not the hon. Gentleman recall that his right hon. Friend was going to consider these references by the judgment of the Court; does he deny that they were made and will he state whether he is going to take any action in the matter?

Mr. DALTON

If the right hon. Gentleman will read again the answer which was given on 19th December, he will find that my right hon. Friend, having carefully considered the question, having made his protest, and having expressed his dissatisfaction with the Soviet reply, was disinclined to carry the matter any further.

Sir K. WOOD

Does not the hon. Gentleman recall that the protests that were made concerned the speeches for the prosecution? I am now asking whether the Government are going to take any action in regard to a much more serious thing, namely, the references to this country in the judgment of the Court?
