HC Deb 22 January 1931 vol 247 cc350-1
40. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Minister of Health what action he is taking, in view of the representations made to him, respecting alleged defects in the sewerage system existing at Bournemouth and Poole as a result of the discharge of sewage into the sea?

Mr. GREENWOOD

This matter has been receiving my careful consideration in consultation with the local authorities concerned, who have been and are carrying out improvements at the sewage outfalls with a view to removing the causes of complaint. Further investigation will be made on the completion of these improvements.

Sir GEORGE PENNY

Seeing that this state of affairs occurs in many coastal towns, is it possible for the Government to appoint an inspector to go round and report upon them?

Mr. GREENWOOD

It might, of course, divert them from other work. I am always glad to assist local authorities in this matter, and this problem at Poole and Bournemouth is one to which I have given personal consideration.
