HC Deb 22 January 1931 vol 247 cc355-6
46. Sir K. WOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether he can state when the Supplementary Estimate in regard to the Grand Opera (Government Grant) will be taken?

The PRIME MINISTER

No money will be spent until the sanction of Parliament has been obtained, but I am unable to say when it will be necessary to lay an estimate.

Sir K. WOOD

Is the right hon. Gentleman prepared to reconsider this matter and the desirability of going forward, in view of the present financial position of the country?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have answered the question which is on the paper.

Mr. A. M. SAMUEL

For the information of the Public Accounts Committee, may I ask the following question? Will it be a new Vote, or will it be by an addition, under Sub-head P, to the Post Office Vote; and will the amount be specified and the conditions to which it is subject also appear in the Vote?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am sure that the hon Member knows that that question should be put to my right hon. Friend.

Mr. SAMUEL

May I put the question to the right hon. Gentleman the Chancellor of the Exchequer now?
