HC Deb 18 February 1931 vol 248 cc1220-1
2. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the contributions paid by His Majesty's Government to the League of Nations for secretariat, etc., and to the International Labour Office, respectively, for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The contributions paid by His Majesty's Government to the League of Nations, in respect of the year ended on the 31st of December last, were as follow:

£
League of Nations 79,164
International Labour Office 36,228
Mr. DAY

Can my right hon. Friend say why this League of Nations secretariat increases so rapidly, while the contribution in respect of the International Labour Office is not so high?

Mr. HENDERSON

Yes, because of the extra work which is being done.

Sir NAIRNE STEWART SANDEMAN

What proportion does our share bear to the total contributions?

Mr. HENDERSON

I think it works out at about 10 per cent.
