§ 81. Mr. ROWSONasked the Secretary for Mines whether he has taken any action regarding the proposal of the coal delegation which recently visited the Scandinavian countries in relation to international marketing agreements among the coal-producing countries of Europe?
§ Mr. SHINWELLYes, Sir. The coal delegation to Scandinavia unanimously recommended further exploration of the possibility of international marketing arrangements. In consequence, I took the opportunity of discussing the question with representatives of the German and Polish Governments, and both Governments are prepared to advise their coal-owners to enter into negotiations with the British coalowners. I subsequently met representatives of the British coal-owners and exporters, with whom the matter now rests and from whom I am expecting shortly to receive information as to the steps they propose to take.
§ Mr. BATEYHas there been any increase in the export of coal to the Scandinavian countries as a result of this deputation?
§ Mr. SHINWELLMy hon. Friend had better put that question down.
§ Mr. A. M. SAMUELCan the hon. Gentleman say whether a single order has been received?
§ Mr. SHINWELLThat is an entirely different question, and if the hon. Gentleman will put it down, I will answer it.
§ Major COLVILLEIs it not a fact that the quota prevents the increase of export coal?
§ Mr. SHINWELLNo, that has nothing to do with it.
