HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 cc563-4
37. Mr. TOM SMITH

asked the Minister of Labour the position with regard to a scheme for the building of new municipal offices submitted by the Pontefract Borough Council in October, 1930, for consideration by the Unemployment Grants Committee?

Miss BONDFIELD

A grant from Exchequer funds was indicated to the local authority on the 11th February.

Mr. SMITH

May I thank the right hon. Lady for expediting a decision in this case?

39. Mr. DOUGLAS HACKING

asked the Minister of Labour the cause of the delay in making a grant through the Unemployment Grants Committee towards the construction of a new road at Welch Whittle, near Chorley?

Miss BONDFIELD

This application was received in the office of the Unemployment Grants Committee on the 29th December last, and has, I think, been dealt with with reasonable expedition. The report of the appropriate Department advising the Committee has been received and considered and the local authority have been informed that a grant from Exchequer funds has been approved.

Mr. HACKING

Does that mean that the road can be proceeded with?

Miss BONDFIELD

Yes, as far as we are concerned.
