HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 cc555-6
3. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Labour whether she has any information to give the House as to the prospective shortage or surplus of juvenile labour during the next five years?

Miss BONDFIELD

The National Advisory Councils for Juvenile Employment have been asked to consider this question. The Council for England and Wales undertook an inquiry last year to ascertain the probable position resulting from the combined effects of the diminution of the birth rate during the War and the reduction in the numbers of juveniles available for employment when the school-leaving age is raised. The results of this inquiry are almost complete and I hope to issue them shortly in the form of a White Paper.
