HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 c587
93. Sir A. KNOX

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, seeing that His Majesty's Government settled the French claim for the transport of British troops during the War at 27 francs instead of 92 francs to the £, he will request the French Government to credit back to His Majesty's Government the sterling difference between the rate of 27 francs to the £ and the rate at which the French Government is honouring its obligations to British holders of the French 1915–18 loans?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Philip Snowden)

I have every sympathy with the hon. Member's suggestion, but I fear that I am precluded from adopting it by the fact that Article 6 of the French War Debt Agreement provides that the accounts relating to the War debt of France to Great Britain shall be finally closed.
