HC Deb 11 February 1931 vol 248 c374
5. Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is his intention to make any further representations to the French Government regarding the repayment of war loans?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

In view of the refusal of the French Government to accept arbitration as shown in the published correspondence (Command Paper 3779), it is difficult to see what further representations could usefully be made.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Surely the right hon. Gentleman is not going to leave the matter where it stands. He will do something.

Mr. HENDERSON

I am afraid I cannot promise to do anything. We have been pressing the matter for some time, as the hon. Member is aware, and, as the answer says, I cannot see what more can usefully be done.
