HC Deb 04 February 1931 vol 247 c1796
23. Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the number of cases of invaliding from the Royal Navy for tuberculosis in 1930; and if he will say in how many of these cases attributability was allowed and pensions granted?

Mr. G. HALL

The number invalided was 203, and in 149 of these cases pensions were granted on the attributable scale.

Sir B. FALLE

In view of these terrible figures, will the hon. Gentleman consider appointing an independent tribunal, if it can be shown that such tribunal will not cost the Army anything?

Mr. HALL

The allowance has been increased, and, if my hon. Friend will compare the figures for 1930 with those for 1929, he will see that there is a considerable improvement.

Sir B. FALLE

I am aware of that fact; this matter has been before the House for many years. Will the hon. Gentleman consider the appointment of an independent medical tribunal?
