HC Deb 04 February 1931 vol 247 c1806
42. Mr. MORLEY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can supply figures showing what has been the reduction in the cost of transport and commodities, if any, due to the operation of the Derating Act?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

As the reply contains a number of figures, I will circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the reply:

I have no information as to the total reductions in transport charges or the cost of commodities resulting from the operation of the Local Government Act, 1929. My hon. Friend may, however, be interested to have the following information as to the railway freight rebates allowed under the eleventh schedule to that Act. During the year (ended on the 30th September, 1930) the average rebates allowed by the railway companies were approximately as follows:

Per ton.
s. d.
Coal, Coke and Patent Fuel:
For export 0
Delivered to iron or steel works 0 9
Other Selected Industrial traffics:
(Including iron ore and limestone) for iron or steel works 0
Selected Agricultural traffics (except Milk and Livestock) 1
Per gallon.
Milk 0.14d.
As from the 1st December last the rates of all these rebates were increased, but I am not yet able to state the resulting average rebate per ton.
