HC Deb 03 February 1931 vol 247 c1621
62. Mr. MILLAR

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total sum required to meet the cost of administration of the services transferred by the Local Government (Scotland) Act, 1929, to the county councils during the first year since the Act came into operation, giving the figures under each head of these services?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Johnston)

I have no information which would enable me to make an estimate of the cost referred to.

Mr. MILLAR

Is it not possible for the hon. Gentleman to obtain the information on this important point from the local authorities?

Mr. JOHNSTON

No, Sir; there is no way whatever by which the estimated cost of transferred services can be disentangled from the estimated cost of services which are otherwise controlled.
