§ 1. Mr. TINKERasked the Minister of Labour if he is in a position to say how many unemployed miners from Lancashire have been sent to training centres during 1930; how many during 1931; and if any of them were found employment after they had been there?
§ The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Henry Betterton)During 1930, 293 unemployed miners from Lancashire were admitted to Government Training and Transfer Instructional Centres. The corresponding figure for 1931 up to the end of November is 114. The great majority of those who have completed their courses have been placed in employment.
§ Mr. KIRKWOODIs the Minister not yet satisfied that these training centres have failed to fulfil the purpose for which they were set up?
§ Sir H. BETTERTONNo, Sir, indeed I am not. I think they have fulfilled a very useful purpose.
