49. Sir NAIRNE STEWART SANDEMANasked the Prime Minister whether, since the Statute of Westminster has now been passed by both Houses, the concurrence of the self-governing Dominions will be sought before Dominion status is granted to any British possession not now enjoying it?
§ The PRIME MINISTERAs I indicated, with reference to India, in the Debate on the 2nd December, if and when any other British possession comes under 2045 the Statute of Westminster it will be by precisely the same machinery and precisely the same method as the Dominions which have already come under it.
Sir N. STEWART SANDEMANDoes that mean that the Dominions would have to agree before India could be taken in?
§ The PRIME MINISTEREverything that had to be done in order to get those names inserted in the Statute of Westminster will have to be done in the case of any additions.
§ Mr. MARJORIBANKSIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that to change the Title of the Crown it is necessary to get the consent of the Dominions, and will he be careful in any of his schemes to obtain the consent of the Dominions before he takes any step necessitating a change in that Title?
