HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 c2031
23. Mr. STOURTON

asked the Home Secretary bow many Russians have been naturalised during the period since the War; and of these how many were at any time officially accredited representatives of the Soviet diplomatic or trade delegations?

Sir H. SAMUEL

The Annual Returns for the years 1919 to 1930, inclusive, show that 6,405 certificates of naturalisation were granted to Russians, including all persons formerly subjects of the Tsar who have not since acquired the nationality of any other State (except that of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The number includes over 2,600 ex-service men. I regret that there are no statistics which would enable me to reply to the second part of the question, but I can assure the hon. Member that the previous history of an applicant is very fully investigated before a certificate is granted.
