HC Deb 07 December 1931 vol 260 c1513
42. Brigadier-General NATION

asked the First Commissioner of Works the present position regarding the proposed statue of Lord Haig that is to be erected in London; what is the total estimated cost; and what proportion of this sum has been spent up to date?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Mr. Hardiman, the sculptor, is now engaged on the full-size figure; the total estimated cost of the statue, excluding the foundations, but including the fees paid to the unsuccessful competitors, is £9,000; the amount paid to Mr. Hardiman to date is £2,150.

Sir W. DAVISON

Can the hon. Gentleman assure the House that in the new statue the field-marshal will be shown mounted on an Army charger and not on an animal with the neck of a llama?
