HC Deb 29 April 1931 vol 251 cc1618-9
30. Captain P. MACDONALD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he can now make a statement as to the policy of the Government in regard to airship construction?

29. Mr. DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether the Government have now decided upon its future policy with reference to airship construction and the ultimate disposal of the R100?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Mr. Montague)

I would refer the hon. Members to the answers given by the Prime Minister yesterday on this subject, and to my reply to the hon. Member for Colchester (Mr. O. Lewis) which was circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Captain MACDONALD

That does not answer my question at all. My question is: when are the Government coming to a decision on this matter? I have already postponed my question for two weeks in order to give the Government an opportunity of making up their minds. In view of the very high cost of maintenance, it is very important that we should have this information.

Mr. MONTAGUE

That question was dealt with in an answer which I circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT yesterday, and it was to the effect that the report is now being considered by the Economy Committee.

Captain MACDONALD

My question has nothing to do with the report on the R101.
