asked the Secretary for Mines the average daily earnings in the mining industry of Great Britain in 1913 and for 1930, giving separate figures for Lancashire and Cheshire?

Mr. SHINWELL

In 1930, the average cash earnings per man-shift worked by all workers in the coal mines in Great Britain was 9s. 3½d., and in Lancashire and Cheshire 9s. 2¾d., as compared with 6s. 7d. and 6s., respectively, in November, 1913.
