HC Deb 28 April 1931 vol 251 c1419
2. Mr. GORDON MACDONALD

asked the Secretary for Mines the output per man per shift in the mining industry of Great Britain in 1913 and in 1930, giving separate figures for Lancashire and Cheshire?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Shinwell)

The output per man-shift worked by all workers employed in the coal mines in Great Britain in 1930 was 21.63 cwts. and in Lancashire and Cheshire 17.32 cwts. I regret that similar information is not available for 1913 but in June, 1914, the corresponding figures were 20.32 cwts. and 15.19 cwts., respectively.
