HC Deb 28 April 1931 vol 251 c1452
Mr. CHAMBERLAIN (by Private Notice)

asked the Prime Minister what procedure he intends to follow in dealing with the Land Tax Resolution, and at what stage the Chancellor of the Exchequer will make the full statement of his proposals for the valuation and taxation of land?

The PRIME MINISTER

After the usual Budget Debate to-day and tomorrow on the outstanding Resolution for Amendment of the law, the Government propose to ask the House on Thursday to pass a Special Resolution, the terms of which appear on the Order Paper this morning. If that Resolution is passed by the House, my right hon. Friend should on Monday move in Committee of Ways and Means a Resolution authorising the imposition of a tax on Land Values, and that will be the occasion for a full statement of his proposals. Should time permit on Thursday, the Second Reading of the Palestine and East Africa Loans Bill, and other Orders will be taken on that day.

Sir AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

If the Resolution on Thursday is carried, will the Resolution that the Chancellor of the Exchequer proposes to move on Monday appear on the Paper on Friday?

The PRIME MINISTER

On Friday morning. It will be handed in on Thursday.
