HC Deb 28 April 1931 vol 251 cc1451-2
65. Mr. REMER

asked the First Commissioner of Works if he can make any statement as to when the new Employment Exchange at Macclesfield will be completed; and if, in view of the exposed position and absence of shelter at the existing Exchange, he will take steps to see that the new Exchange is ready for occupation by the early autumn?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Lansbury)

A tender has been accepted for the erection of a new Employment Exchange and it is hoped that the new building will be ready for occupation early next year. It will not be possible to complete the building by the autumn.

Mr. REMER

Will the right hon. Gentleman make the same provision during the coming winter as existed last winter?

Mr. LANSBURY

The new Exchange will certainly be everything that, the hon. Member expects.

Mr. REMER

The trouble is going to take place in October and November. Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to deal with the situation at that moment?

Mr. LANSBURY

We will do our best.
