HC Deb 16 April 1931 vol 251 c331
13. Mr. HACKING

asked the Home Secretary whether he will state the total number of mechanically-propelled vehicles at present attached to the Metropolitan Police force?

Mr. CLYNES

The number, including prison vans, is 394.

Mr. HACKING

Am I to understand that 60 people and two repair garages are required to look after such a small number of vehicles, and does not that show that there must be a large number of accidents due to careless driving?

Mr. CLYNES

The right hon. Gentleman may draw his own conclusions, but I have given the figures in reply to the question.

Mr. DAY

Does the right hon. Gentleman say that there are a large number of accidents?

Mr. CLYNES

I should require notice of that question.
