The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Pethick- Lawrence)

The salaries and fees of the Attorney-General and Solicitor-General, in the period of about 21½ months from 10th June, 1929, to 31st March, 1931, are as follows:

Salary. Fees. Total.
Attorney- General. £ £ £

Sir R. Stafford Cripps (from 27th October, 1930). 2,576 3,188 5,764

Sir K. WOOD

May I ask if this is "Socialism in our Time"?

Mr. R. RICHARDSON

Can the Financial Secretary give the amounts taken by the predecessors of these gentlemen for a like period?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

I shall be very happy to do so if my hon. Friend will put a question down.

Mr. McSHANE

May I ask whether, in respect of these salaries, a speedometer was attached?

Mr. BROCKWAY

Arising out of the original answer, is the hon. Gentleman prepared to reconsider, in view of these salaries, the wage cuts in the case of other State workers who are receiving less than 40s. a week?
