HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 c186
21. Mr. DAY

asked the Home Secretary whether he is now in a position to make any statement with reference to the proposal to establish traffic police in the Metropolitan area?

Mr. CLYNES

I assume that my hon. Friend refers to the scheme which was outlined by the Minister of Transport during the Debate on the Road Traffic Bill. The details of that scheme will be dealt with in a circular to Police authorities and to Chief Officers of Police which will be issued shortly. Meanwhile I am in consultation with the Commissioner of Police as to the measures to be taken to put the scheme into operation in the Metropolitan Police District but I am not yet in a position to give any details.

Mr. DAY

Can my right hon. Friend say whether there will be co-ordination between the Metropolitan Police District and other authorities in these traffic arrangements?

Mr. CLYNES

We should desire, of course, to attain that end, and it is a point to which I shall give further consideration.
