HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 cc186-7
74. Major OWEN

asked the Postmaster-General whether in view of the heavy traffic and the narrowness of the main road leading from Carnarvon to Bangor, between Parcian Lodge and Griffith's Crossing, he will take immediate steps for the removal of the telegraph poles situated on that portion of the main road?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTERGENERAL (Mr. Viant)

I am informed that the poles cannot be regarded as dangerous to properly driven traffic. I understand that proposals are under consideration for widening this portion of the road. In the circumstances I do not consider any action necessary regarding the poles at present.

Major OWEN

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware that accidents occur on this road owing to the fact that the poles are far out on the road, and should not the Post Office take steps to remove these obstructions even before the suggested improvement is carried out?

Mr. VIANT

I hope that the hon. and gallant Member will read the latter portion of my reply, in which I state that there is every possibility that this road is to be widened. Moreover, if the roadway is properly used at the present time, there is no danger to traffic.

Major OWEN

From my own personal knowledge I can inform the hon. Gentleman that I have seen accidents on that road from the cause that I have stated.
