HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 c190
31. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Minister of Health the number and scope of slum-clearance and re-housing schemes so far approved under the Housing Act, 1930?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Mr. Arthur Greenwood)

I have received resolutions declaring 11 areas to be clearance areas, one clearance order and one compulsory purchase order. The number of persons occupying the 11 areas is approximately 5,400.

Mr. WHITE

is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied from the information which he has received that this Act is going to fulfil its purpose without the necessity of seeking further powers?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I am satisfied that these figures do not give us any real evidence. As a matter of fact, local authorities are now preparing their five year programmes.
