HC Deb 30 October 1930 vol 244 cc176-7
3. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Labour what is the present indebtedness of the Unemployment Insurance Fund; what amount of the authorised borrowing is unexhausted; and whether it is proposed to ask for authorisation for further borrowing without revising the existing scheme of unemployment insurance?

Miss BONDFIELD

The indebtedness of the Unemployment Fund on 25th October, 1930, was £53,220,000. The unexhausted amount of authorised borrowing on that date was therefore £6,780,000. As regards the last part of the question, I must ask the hon. and gallant Member to await the introduction of the Bill which I will table in due course.

Sir A. POWNALL

At the present rate of unemployment, how soon will the £60,000,000 figure be reached?

4. Captain MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Labour whether she can state the decisions which have been come to by the three-party committee on unemployment insurance; and, if not, when she will be in a position to do so?

Miss BONDFIELD

The proceedings of this Committee are confidential.

Captain MACDONALD

Is there to be an agreed report?

Miss BONDFIELD

No.

Captain MACDONALD

Is this Committee still sitting?

Miss BONDFIELD
