HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 c1470
19. Mr. HERRIOTTS

asked the Minister of Labour the number of work schemes in operation in the county of Durham, the number of men employed, the total cost of these schemes, and what proportion is borne by the local authorities and the State, respectively?

Miss BONDFIELD

On the latest date for which information is available 86 schemes, the total cost of which is £2,192,422, employing 3,240 men, were being undertaken in the county of Durham with assistance from the various grant making Departments. The proportion of cost falling on the promoting authorities varies widely with the nature of each scheme.
