HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 cc1469-70
16. Mr. WOMERSLEY

asked the Minister of Labour the figures for the latest date available of the number of men, women, and juveniles registered as unemployed at the Grimsby Employment Exchange?

Miss BONDFIELD

At 17th November, 1930, there were 4,632 persons on the register of the Employment Exchange at Grimsby, including 3,869 men, 149 boys, 455 women and 159 girls.

Mr. WOMERSLEY

In view of the big rise in the number of men unemployed in that district, will the Minister of Labour consider the question of stopping transferred labour in that area?

Miss BONDFIELD

I am not very sure that there is any transferred labour there.

Mr. WOMERSLEY

Oh, yes there is. Is the right hon. Lady not aware that there is a great scheme of work at the moment on which a great deal of transferred labour had been brought in? Will she go into the matter, and. see if that cannot be stopped?

Miss BONDFIELD

I cannot reconsider the conditions of a scheme which has already been started.
