HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 cc1484-5
46. Mr. BROCKWAY

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government intends to introduce legislation to prevent a reduction of the wages of miners and railwaymen?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which the Prime Minister gave yesterday to the hon. Member for Dumbarton Burghs (Mr. Kirkwood), of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. BROCKWAY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the reductions threatened are to a minimum of less than £2 a week, and is the Government prepared to take action to prevent that hunger-level of wages being reached?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I think the Prime Minister's answer to the question to which I referred the hon. Member says everything that it is possible to say. I am not aware of the accuracy of the figures to which he refers.

Mr. BROCKWAY

Is not a crisis likely to arise by Monday next?
