HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 c1499
74. Sir CYRIL COBB

asked the Minister of Health What was the scale of outdoor relief for a man, wife and three children granted by the guardians in Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds in 1928, and what is the scale granted at the present time?

Mr. GREENWOOD

Although scales are adopted by some local authorities as a means of affording general guidance, the submission of such scales to the Minister of Health is not required. The hon. Member will recognise that the relief granted to any applicant must be related to the applicant's particular needs, and I am afraid therefore that the comparison for which he asks, even if it were fully available, would be of no value without a good deal more information as to the practice of the authorities concerned.
