HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 cc1499-500
79. Captain P. MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Health for what purpose connected with the taking of the Census on 26th April, 1931, persons filling up the return are to be asked to give the names and addresses of their employers?

Mr. GREENWOOD

Experience has shown the necessity for obtaining these particulars, in connection with the industrial classification of employés, in order that the nature of the employer's business may be precisely ascertained, by reference, for example, to directories, in those cases where the business is not stated in the return itself with sufficient precision and completeness to permit of proper classification. The names and addresses are, of course, confidential, and will in no case be published.
