HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 c1483
55. Sir A. POWNALL

asked the President of the Board of Education how much has been spent by local education authorities in building extensions, in view of the proposed raising of the school age?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

I am unable to give any figure for the expenditure incurred on building extensions in preparation for the raising of the school leaving age, as it is not possible to differentiate capital expenditure directly referable to this object from other expenditure on new accommodation.

Mr. SMITHERS

Is it not impossible for local education authorities to submit building schemes until the boundaries have been settled?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

I do not think that that matter really arises out of the question.

Mr. SMITHERS

It does; you do not know.
