HC Deb 27 November 1930 vol 245 c1465
1. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Labour the number of claims to unemployment benefit as at the last convenient date, giving comparable figures for the same period in 1927?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Miss Bondfield)

At 10th November, 1930, there were 2,114,961 claimants to benefit on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain, as compared with 1,025,309 at 7th November, 1927.

Mr. DAY

Could the right hon. Lady say whether that number includes those claims which have been disallowed?

Miss BONDFIELD

I must ask for notice of that question.

Mr. HANNON

Is not this enormous increase due to the policy of His Majesty's Government?
