HC Deb 17 November 1930 vol 245 cc22-3
40. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether any contribution has been made by His Majesty's Government during the last 12 months for the purpose of advertising British goods abroad; and will he give particulars?

Mr. GILLETT

No money has been spent on the direct advertising of British goods abroad, hut if my hon. Friend has Press advertising and publicity in mind, £14,000 has been allocated for that purpose for advertising the British Industries Fair abroad, while expenditure on exhibitions abroad during the period in question has amounted to approximately £94,000.

Mr. DAY

May I ask whether any schemes have been put before him by British traders for this purpose?

Mr. GILLETT

No, Sir.
